The Lifespan Code of EVA Foam
How long can EVA foam be stored? This depends on its 'material' and environmental 'treatment'. This lightweight material is naturally water-resistant and corrosion-resistant, but it will still 'age' over time:
- Under normal conditions: Maintains good elasticity for 3-5 years
- High temperature exposure: May harden and crack in 1-2 years
- Damp basement: Prone to mold growth in about 2 years
The Golden Rules for Extending Lifespan
To keep your EVA foam 'ageless', remember these three preservation secrets:
- Avoid light and hibernate: Ultraviolet rays are the number one killer; storing it in a dark place doubles its lifespan.
- Keep it dry and breathe: Keep humidity below 60% and ventilate once a month to prevent moisture.
- Lying flat: Standing upright will cause long-term deformation; storing it flat maintains its elasticity.
Warning signs of deterioration
When these symptoms appear, your EVA foam should be retired:
- Surface crumbles and powders, like weathered rock
- The rebound speed after pressing is significantly slower
- Net-like cracks or mold spots appear
- A pungent chemical odor is emitted
