EPDM Sponge Sheet

This epdm sponge sheet is specifically formulated for building envelope sealing and household appliance vibration damping. The high-density closed-cell structure stands up to extreme heat, sunlight, and ozone without cracking or becoming brittle over time. Used inside washing machines, dishwashers, and AC units, this sponge sheet absorbs motor vibration and significantly reduces operating noise. For building applications, it provides IP-rated protection against dust and moisture for doors, windows, and curtain walls. The closed-cell nature means it does not hold moisture or allow water wicking, ensuring long-term reliability in wet environments.

Core Advantages for Construction & Appliance

-112

  • Building applications: Draft exclusion and weatherproofing for doors/windows, significantly reducing air leakage and energy loss. Can withstand wind pressures up to 5kPa at 30% compression (approximately 10 on the Beaufort scale)
  • Appliance damping: Absorbs motor vibration in washing machines, dishwashers, and AC units, lowering operating noise by 3-5 dB compared to rigid mounts
  • Long-term durability: Maintains hermetic seal even after 10+ years of compression cycles. EPDM does not degrade through time due to its excellent ageing properties
  • Easy installation: Available with pressure-sensitive adhesive for peel-and-stick application on-site
  • Low water absorption: Industry-tested values as low as 0.2% have been documented

Applications Construction:

  • Window glazing seals and curtain wall gaskets
  • Door sweeps and perimeter seals
  • Roof flashing seals
  • RV and mobile home hatch gaskets
  • Skylight perimeter seals

Appliances:

  • Washing machine door seals and pump mounts
  • Dishwasher spray arm gaskets
  • AC unit compressor vibration pads
  • Refrigerator door gaskets
  • HVAC access panel seals

Packaging & Storage

Standard sheet size: 1000mm × 2000mm (39" × 79") or custom dimensions. Packed in cartons with moisture-barrier film. Sheets are interleaved with polyethylene film to prevent surface sticking. Store flat in dry conditions (<70% RH, 15-30°C). Shelf life: 24 months when stored properly. Adhesive-backed rolls should be used within 12 months of manufacture. Avoid stacking heavy objects on stored material to prevent compression set.

Factory FAQ

Q1: Used for building window seals, what wind pressure can it withstand? What is its service life?

A: At a density of 200kg/m³ and 30% compression, EPDM sponge sheet withstands approximately 5kPa of wind pressure (equivalent to Beaufort scale 10 or 55-63 km/h winds). Actual project cases documented in industry show EPDM window seals remaining elastic without cracking after 15+ years of service. Recommended installation compression: 25%–35% of original thickness. Example: For 6mm thick sheet, design groove depth of 4.0-4.5mm. Exceeding 45% compression accelerates stress relaxation and may reduce service life to 5-7 years.

Q2: Used in washing machine door seals, will it mold or cause odors?

A: EPDM is inherently hydrophobic (water-repellent) and contains no proteins, so it does not support mold growth as a food source. However, in long-term humid, non-ventilated environments, mineral scale or detergent residue may accumulate on the surface, potentially causing cosmetic discoloration. We offer an antimicrobial formula option (silver-ion or zinc-based additive) that inhibits bacterial and fungal growth per ASTM G21 testing. For standard residential applications, routine cleaning with mild detergent is sufficient to maintain hygiene.

Q3: Can this sponge sheet be used outdoors continuously without protection?

A: Yes. EPDM's saturated carbon-carbon backbone makes it inherently ozone- and UV-resistant, unlike natural rubber or SBR which powder and crack over time. Our standard construction grade has passed 1000-hour xenon arc accelerated weathering testing (ASTM G155) with no significant discoloration, cracking, or loss of physical properties. However, avoid direct contact with petroleum-based oils, diesel fuel, or greases-these cause swelling (typically 15-30% volume increase) and eventual material degradation. For environments with oil exposure, consider NBR/PVC foam instead.

Q4: How does compression set affect long-term sealing performance?

A: Compression set is the most critical property for sealing applications. It measures the material's inability to return to original thickness after being compressed. Industry standards (ASTM D1056) typically require ≤25% compression set for general grades. Our construction grade achieves ≤20%, meaning a 10mm thick sheet compressed to 7.5mm (25% compression) will recover to at least 9.5mm after the load is removed. For critical sealing applications (e.g., IP68 enclosures), we recommend using our premium grade with ≤15% compression set.
